So the 2012 Presidential Election is over.

Probably the most troubling statistic is this, from newsbusters.org:

"...the most important statistic out of this election for Republicans has to be Romney getting the least votes of any major presidential candidate in 12 years despite the head of steam the GOP had coming out of the historic 2010 midterm elections."

So why the voter apathy?  Obama got about 9 million less this time, but Romney got a million less then Mr. Boredom himself, John McCain.  With the economy still in the tank, a continued recession in full swing, gas prices up, home values down, food stamp recipients on the rise...  All the reasons to NOT reelect an incumbent president.  Couple that with a vibrant businessman, plan for bringing back a comatose economy, energetic, teleprompter-less, presidential in every way...  except in electability it seems.

What is it about this republican candidate that he couldn't manage to oust Barack Obama?  Could it be his stand on abortion?  Maybe the views toward illegal immigrants?  Maybe it was the whole Mormon thing?

Maybe republican minded voters just didn't think things were as bad as a lot of us think....  Really?

In the midst of such turmoil over the perceived destruction of our country, how could so many people just 'not vote'?  I'm shaking my head here.

So what now?

Just what does a republican candidate have to do to get elected in this climate?

Republicans need to get a clue as to where in this country the needed votes are, and what kind of voters they are.  The county by county map of the 2012 election is a piece of the puzzle:

The Democrats have seen this coming for a long time...  Dense population areas, many who are poor and likely minorities.  It is past the tipping point.  Continuing on the same path, appealing to the same voters in the same way will ensure defeat.

Sacrifice principles?

Give people more stuff?

Out socialize the socialists?

What will it take?

Lesson from Reagan: Be conservative to your core, speak it because you mean it, don't fear your enemy (political or international), when you speak do it with credibility enough to persuade the people.

Romney didn't have that.

I tried to tell myself that it was there, that everyone felt it, that the next 4 years were his.  Nope.

So instead of those missing voters being convinced and won over...

They sold us out.

These next 4 years will be like driving a Ferrari with 1 quart of oil.  It will be major screwed up by the time you get to where you are going, and when the passengers finally kick you out of the car  it won't be going anywhere for a while until someone with enough ambition and know-how comes along and spends a whole lot of time getting it working again.

Then maybe we can take another road trip and enjoy the ride.  This is going to be a while.

Until then, please God, bless this country and us.  Every one of us.
